Site Development: As specialists in large earthwork and complex highway/bridge projects we have a vast experience in the heavy civil construction industry. Many of our company’s senior project managers and superintendents have worked together for over 20 years and have fine-tuned their ability to multi-task large-scale, multi-dimensional construction projects.
DOT Highways: Alvin J. Coleman & Son, Inc. are pre-approved in New Hampshire, Maine and Vermont for the construction of state highways and have worked on DOT projects in Arizona, Nevada, Iowa, Oklahoma, Illinois, Louisiana, West Virginia, Massachusetts, Georgia and Michigan.
DOT Bridges: We are pre-approved to build bridges in NH, Maine and Vermont and have built many different styles of bridges for DOT projects. We have experience in building bridges that include using: temporary bridges, multiple spans, steel rolled beams, reinforced concrete decks, stub abutments, abutments, reinforced concrete piers, wing walls, multiple water diversion structures, and box culverts.
Retail Development: Alvin J. Coleman & Son, Inc. has worked on multiple large-scale (some over 50 acres) retail developments for key tenants such as Lowe’s, Target and Wal-Mart. We built the Greenland Meadow’s retail complex which was the first development in the State of NH to use porous pavement along with large-scale subsurface drainage and detention systems.
Airport: We have reconstructed, improved and built several airport taxi-way systems, including doing work on the Pease International Airport. We are familiar and knowledgeable with the Federal Aviation Administration’s standards and able to perform to their highly specific standards.
Landfills: We have performed multiple landfill closures, as well as constructed several phases of the Mt. Carberry Landfill in Berlin NH. These are unique projects as the landfill includes a complex methane gas collection system which is then piped off-site to be used as fuel.
Design-Build: Alvin J. Coleman & Son, Inc. has partnered with several engineering firms to design, price, and construct design build projects. We recently completed construction of the Great Hill Bridge over the Great Hill River in South Berwick, Maine. This was a design-build project in conjunction with Eckman Engineering, LLC from Portsmouth NH.
Crushing/Aggregates: In order to vertically integrate and efficiently manage our construction process we offer a variety of crushing services. We have our own quarry in Madison NH with 3 crushers and 2 screens, and sell high quality aggregates from our Conway NH location, as well as use them for our own jobs. We also own a portable crusher so that we are able to perform crushing operations for customers at their location as well as create aggregates from rock ledge on our job site, for re-use in road-beds and foundations.
Project Development: Our Project Management team coordinates project and client needs from the pre-construction phase through project completion. The project management team is the point of contact and coordinator between the project owner, engineers, architects, the on-site superintendents and project managers, as well as subcontractors and material suppliers. It is the project development team’s responsibility to make sure that the job is completely in an efficient, timely, and quality assured manner.
Estimating: Our estimating department is responsible for the preparation of construction cost estimates, and budgets while ensuring quality control and the use of knowledgeable subcontractors. Our estimating department has vast experience in bidding on DOT, private, and commercial jobs with the ability to estimate jobs via digitized and CAD take-offs.
Equipment: Alvin J. Coleman & Son, Inc. owns an extensive fleet of earthwork equipment ranging from bulldozers to excavators, to rollers and road graders. In order to effectively manage our equipment amongst jobsites we have a lowbed/transportation division as well as a fleet management team that coordinates state permits, truck routes and safety procedures. Additionally, we own a large fleet of dump trucks to transport aggregates and other materials to customers and our jobsite. In order to keep our equipment running efficiently and safely we employ several diesel mechanics and maintenance technicians.
